Benefits of Beef Tallow

Traditional fats are making a comeback. You might be wondering, what is tallow? Well, stick around and I’ll tell you all the benefits of beef tallow!

Many years ago, fats like tallow and lard were staples in our ancestor’s homes. For a time, they became less popular to some. Many farmers have kept up with using them, in order to honor our harvest of our animals, by using the entire animal. But lately, more people starting to rediscover, just how wonderful and nutrient-dense traditional animal fats like tallow are.

What is tallow?

Tallow is what you get when you render down beef fat. What is rendering beef fat? It is the process of liquifying, straining, and storing fats that can later be used. You can also render pork fat and make lard. Both are incredibly good for you skin! The hardest and highest quality tallow comes from the fat from around the animal’s organs. Another name for this type of fat is leaf fat.

Is tallow healthy for your skin?

Tallow is a popular cooking fat and is known for its health benefits for the body. Tallow is becoming more popular in the skin care line and can be found in our soaps, balms, and our Tallow Lotions.

Tallow has some amazing benefits when used on the skin as it is very nourishing and moisturizing. As much as we love cooking with beef Tallow, I render down the majority of our beef fat into tallow to make skincare products. Tallow is a good source of vitamins A, D, K, E, & B12, along with several other minerals. It has natural anti-inflammatory properties, can help repair damaged skin, and improves skin flexibility. In addition, tallow can help reduce anti-aging signs by smoothing fine lines, wrinkles, and crow feet.
