4 Unexpected Ways to Use Milk Soap
If you’ve spent any time browsing our website and learning about our family’s story and the launch of McGuire Soap Company, you know that we are pretty big fans of RAW cows milk. Perhaps more importantly, we’re big fans of milk soap. We began using it to treat our daughter’s eczema, and after seeing how well it healed and nourished her skin, we decided to share our amazing creation with the world. Here are 4 unexpected ways to use our milk soap.
Our Milk Soaps are the masters of versatility, here at The McGuire Homestead we believe in sustainable products. Our milk soaps can be used if you’re looking to get a smooth shave or if you’re trying to find a soap to use on your baby that’s gentle.
Shaving Cream
Everyone women knows how great it feels to have your legs freshly shaved BUT how awful it is when razor burn and dry irritated skin follows. Our milk soaps provide a thick lather which acts as a lubricant and a barrier between your skin the and blade. Traditional shaving cream manufacturers know this, so they formulate their products to be especially rich and frothy. Unfortunately, to achieve this effect they often use sodium lauryl sulfate, an ingredient that can cause skin irritation and has been shown to be highly allergenic for eczema sufferers.
The good news for you guys is that you’re here reading our blog! You can now ditch the shaving creams with ingredients that can irritate the skin and switch to our vitamin and nutrient- rich milk soaps. The shea butter, coconut oil, and lard in our soaps provide a lubricant for the skin but it also it acts as an exceptional barrier for locking in moisture. They also are high in the vitamins that help keep skin healthy. This is just 1 of 4 unexpected ways to use our milk soap.
When it comes to cellular makeup, Tallow is incredibly close to human skin. It has a similar pH and is made up of saturated and monounsaturated fats. One fact that skincare experts know: Oil dissolves oil. Since tallow is so similar to our own skin oils, it’s a match made in heaven. As a cleanser, tallow is a gentle and natural way to rid your face of that nasty buildup and the daily dirt in your pores.
Pigs are extremely efficient at processing sunlight and storing it as Vitamin D in their fat. Vitamin D helps to minimize dark spots and lines, reduce acne, and promote collagen production. This D-rich lard comes from pastured hogs that have been exposed to sunlight. Tallow is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin E and Vitamin A. Face Wash
Which leads me into my next way your can use our milk soaps! Before I became a mom I used to be the type of person that had countless different products that lined my bathroom shelf. Each product was for a different use for my face.
Now that I’ve become a mother to the most wonderful baby girl I don’t have the time I used to. I wouldn’t trade that for the world. BUT does that mean I have to give up completely on myself ? The answer is no for me and no for every mother, working women, and women who doesn’t want to spend the big bucks on an expensive cleanser to wash their face. Our milk soaps are the perfect well rounded products for your bathroom. Our soaps job is to cleanse gently wether it be your face or your babies bottom.
Because they’re used around the eyes and other sensitive areas, face washes are often gentler than traditional soaps and body washes. The good news about milk soap is that it’s naturally gentle, but it’s also super effective. In addition to providing a deep-clean, cows milk also promotes anti-aging and reduced inflammation. Thanks to lactic acid a gentle alpha hydroxy acid that is found naturally in cows milk, our milk soaps can help fight lines and wrinkles while promoting general cell turnover.
Shampoo Bar

Have you noticed lately more and more people are transitioning to products that are better for the environment ? That’s why the solid shampoo bars have become so trendy. They use less water , and our milk soap bars do not contain wasteful packaging. Because honestly I used to be the person who had a collection of empty shampoo and body wash bottles. Now the only things I have to do is put my bar back on its soap dish.
Most shampoo’s are made for just that shampooing your hair but our milk soap bar can be used for body, face, and hair. Which makes it an incredibly sustainable product and cuts down on your footprint. All while saving yourself from a wall of empty shampoo bottles on your shelf AND saving money on products.
Baby Wash
As many of you know I became a mother to my daughter Eliza Jane June 14, 2021. It was a hard delivery we were in the hospital for what seemed like forever because Eliza was born early. I was so happy to be home and I couldn’t wait to give my little girl a bath. Then wrap her up in a comfy towel and cuddle her.
To some moms first baths can be scary but you know what’s even scarier? Seeing your baby instantly break out into a rash! Following that rash came the eczema. If you have not checked out the ingredients on your baby care products, you should check out the label. I will warn you though, it may take you back a few steps. I know it did for me I felt awful, half the ingredients were a mystery to me then the rest of the products were far from natural.
On the other hand, our milk soap is made with non-toxic ingredients that are gentle enough for babies while also nourishing for their sensitive skin. It’s why our milk soap is at the top of our list of must- have skincare products for newborns.
I specifically love our all natural bar and our gentle and soothing lavender essential oil bar.
